Middletown, New Jersey

One of the oldest municipalities in the state, Middletown was settled as early as 1664, and incorporated as a township in 1798. It is located in the northeaster section of Monmouth County. It was held by the British during the Revolutionary War, and existed as a loose connection of agricultural and maritime villages until the establishment of the railroad station in 1875. After that, the area grew quickly into one the region’s economically significant, and socially vibrant suburbs.

Middletown encompasses a large geographic area, and includes smaller towns like Belford, Leonardo, Lincroft, Navesink, North Middletown, Fairview, Port Monmouth, New Monmouth and Sandy Hook. It provides access to the shore, New York City, and areas south and west, by the Garden State Parkway, the New Jersey Transit Railroad, and ferries, all of which run from or through points in Middletown.
