Police in Neptune City recently arrested two men who are accused of committing a violent home invasion and robbery at a local apartment building.
According to authorities, the theft occurred at the home of the apartment complex manager and his wife. The suspects allegedly forced their way into the residence, which is located on Steiner Avenue in Neptune, NJ, and attacked the victims.
Once inside the apartment, the suspects reportedly brandished knives as they held up the victims. The suspects allegedly bound the hands and feet of the victims and then gagged their mouths with duct tape.
After reportedly getting an undisclosed amount of cash, the suspects left the residence and fled the area.
The female victim was eventually able to get free of her restraints and dial 911 to notify the Neptune City Police Department. Police officers were dispatched to the scene and immediately started an investigation.
Police soon located and captured two of the robbery suspects. The suspects who were apprehended are said to be from Maryland.
Law enforcement is still searching for the third suspect. He has been described as a Hispanic male who is 20-25 years old. During the armed robbery, he was wearing a tan shirt and gray sweatpants. Members of the public with information about the still-at-large suspect are asked to contact Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office detectives at 800-533-7433 or Neptune police detectives at 732-775-1615.
The suspects currently in police custody include a 21-year-old male and a 25-year-old male. They have both been charged with a slew of criminal offenses, including first degree armed robbery, second degree burglary, and third degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.
If the suspects are ultimately convicted on the most serious charges of first degree armed robbery, they face severe criminal penalties. As set forth by N.J.S.A. 2C:15-1, anyone who uses a deadly weapon during the commission of a theft can be charged with a first degree felony. A conviction for first degree armed robbery could lead to a sentence of 10-20 years in New Jersey State Prison.
After being placed under arrest and processed, the suspects were taken to the Monmouth County Jail in Freehold Township, NJ. They were each being held at the correctional facility in lieu of separate $500K bail amounts.
